Finding plants with dark burgundy foliage that will grow in the full summer sun of Perth can be a hard task. This burgundy Ricinus is well up to the task although it does need a weekly water to keep it growing well and looking good. Now I hear you about Ricinus communis and this particular cultivar does need some water to stay alive. Seedlings that germinate in early spring die pretty quickly once the soil dries out. But also its easy to remove spent flowers before seed ripens. This little task is worth it for the fabulous dark foliage and tropical feel it brings to the garden. I've had this plant kicking around in my gardens for years and am yet to fall out of love with it. Hopefully you will feel the same!
