From South-eastern Asia, this interesting lily prefers moist, richer soils so is perhaps best in a pot for those gardeners on sandier soils. It will grow well in heavier soils if the winter drainage is good. Typical sword like iris foliage reaches approx 30cm high whilst plants gradually spread out rhizomatically. Flowering during summer, the inflorescence are approx 40cm tall making them useful for floral arranging. Flowers are generally terminal, or near the top of the stem, and are reminiscent of lily flowers (hence the common name). Seed pods can develop and whilst I haven't had any germinate in the garden, it's always good practice to remove seed pods before ripening unless you want to collect the seed to sow. Morning sun with some afternoon shade is best in hotter locations but cooler areas such as South-west WA could grow this Iris in full sun.
