A double flowering form of Sparmannia africana. Fast growing and large leaved it does very well in dappled shade to morning sun in Perth. From the eastern region of South African into South America it can struggle if unwatered through the heat of a Perth summer. I water it deeply once a week in weather above 35 degC and it copes well in a protected position. In cooler regions it would probably grow well in more sun and with less supplementary water. Flowers are produced towards the end of new growth and this is a plant that will get up to 4m or more. I prune hard in late autumn to keep it around 2m in height to enjoy the stunning flowers.
