Dombeya wallichii
A rare Dombeya from Madagascar, its tropical origins means that it does require watering during hot, dry weather. The large leaves can be prone to wind burn around the edges during hot, dry, windy weather so this is not a plant for a shelter belt or wind break. But in a warm, protected position it is magnificent. Enormous, hand sized shell pink flowers are produced from mid spring into summer, and these last for a substantial time hanging from the stems like large Christmas tree baubles. The dried flowers can also be used for floral artistry. Best with protection from the hot afternoon sun in Western Australia and a deep weekly water during the dry weather. It will reach 4mH and 3mW unpruned. If shaping is required, do so immediately after flowering as blooms are produced on new wood.
