Endemic to the western regions of South Africa this species inhabits permanently wet locations such as stream banks. Despite this, it is surprisingly dry tolerant and has survived for a number of years without any regular water through summer. Does look best though with the occassional deep soaking and also makes an excellent plant for ponds, creek or boggy locations in the garden. Full sun is best although will tolerate shade but flowering is reduced. Spring flowering with inflorescence to 1.5mH. Foliage is sword like and reaches around 60cmH. Evergreen perennial.
