This terrifically tough sage is endemic to the southern inland coastal part of California down into Baja California. It is found growing on dry sites and does best with little to no water in the garden. I grow it without any supplementary water and it always looks fabulous. Californian nurseries report it gets too lanky if watered, however on the very sandy coastal soils of Perth it may benefit from a fortnightly water in the hottest part of summer. Err on the side of drier soils and you should have great success! In my garden it is wider than tall; 1.3mW x 1.1mH. Soft lilac-pink flowers cover it in spring and contrast nicely with the grey tomentose foliage. Requires full sun.
